Meet the trustees

Bill Ainscough

Bill is Chairman of the trustees of the Wain Foundation and it’s a position that brings him full circle. From founding the company that has become the Wain Group today to investing financial and commercial support in SMEs that want to grow, Bill now also helps enrich lives in the communities he has helped to build.

Growing up in a working-class mining town, he has a personal understanding of how opportunity, encouragement and guidance can help a young person achieve. It's why he’s passionate about philanthropy and has been closely involved in children’s charities for over 40 years. A Trustee of OnSide, which empowers young people to lead positive and fulfilling lives, he’s keen to extend his charitable giving even further through the Wain Foundation.

Kate Greenleaf

Kate is part of the Ainscough family and a proud Trustee of the Wain Foundation. She is also a Board Director and property expert with nearly two decades’ experience working in the high-end residential sector, both at home and overseas.

Naturally philanthropic, helping others has always been important to Kate. She’s worked as a special educational needs early years playworker, and has helped children at her local village school to read. She’s also helped at a homeless shelter in South West London and was a fundraiser for Action Aid and OnSide. Kate is looking forward to supporting families and communities through the financial support the Foundation gives.

Jim Smith

Jim is a Trustee with a prolific marketing career that spans more than 40 years, and counting. A strategic marketing and brand specialist, he was Founder and Chairman of Clear Presentations, a leading events and conference company in Manchester. He also founded Clear Marketing, a successful brand strategy, planning and communications agency that became an Employee Ownership Trust when he sold it to his staff in 2021.

Previous roles include 10 years at J Walter Thompson as Chairman of the Manchester office and a member of the London Board of Directors.

We benefit from Jim’s commercial expertise and drive to support charities in equal measure. As well as being a Founder Trustee of OnSide, he is also a Founder Trustee and Vice Chairman of Manchester Youth Zone. Charities like these that help disadvantaged young people resonate with Jim as his older sister was born with cerebral palsy. He recognises that the Foundation is a platform to help contribute to a better society within the areas in which Wain Group work.

Nina Chesworth

Nina is a solicitor and brings a wealth of legal expertise to her role within Wain Foundation. Nina has worked with the Ainscough family for over two decades, latterly for Wain Group Limited.

She is delighted to appointed as a Trustee of the Wain Foundation and given the opportunity to support the commitment to building a better, more equitable society through the impactful work of the Foundation.

Nina has first hand experience of the invaluable work of charity supported children’s hospices and their need for funding after her family benefitted from the care of Rainbows Hospice in Loughborough, during the life of her step daughter, Sophie.
